Become a Host Family

Become a Billet Family for the Cape Cod Seahawks Junior Hockey Team

Each season, the Cape Cod Seahawks recruit talented junior hockey players from across the globe who show immense potential for success at the college level and beyond. These young athletes often come from distant locations, and to help them achieve their goals, they need a safe and supportive "home away from home." Billet families play an essential role in their journey, offering more than just a place to stay—they provide a welcoming environment where players can focus on both their hockey and academic careers.

Why Billet Families Are So Important

The Seahawks organization truly values the relationships between billet families and players. For many players, their time with a billet family becomes an important part of their growth—both as athletes and as individuals. In return, billet families often find themselves forming lifelong bonds with players, watching them as they progress through their college hockey careers and beyond.

The relationships built are mutually rewarding. Not only do the players benefit from your guidance and support, but they also serve as inspiring role models for younger members of the family, showcasing dedication, hard work, and perseverance.

Who Are the Players?

Our players range in age from 16 to 20, and while they focus on hockey, they are also required to attend classes at local colleges or hold part-time jobs to balance their academic and athletic commitments.

What’s Expected of the Billet Family?

  • A private room for each player (or shared with another team member), including a bed, bureau, and closet space.
  • Families are not required to cook daily meals but are encouraged to share meals when possible or ensure food is available for the players to prepare themselves.
  • Players are encouraged to be a part of the family life and will appreciate being included in family activities and meals when appropriate.

What’s Expected of the Player?

  • Players must provide their own bedding, bath linens, personal care items, cell phones, media equipment, and transportation.
  • When meals aren’t available, players are expected to make their own food.
  • Players are responsible for cleaning up after themselves.
  • Players must adhere to all team and household rules, showing respect and consideration to all family members.

How Long Is the Billet Family Commitment?

The length of the commitment will depend on the individual player’s schedule. While most players stay with billet families throughout the hockey season, some may remain for the full school year. Players generally go home for holiday breaks and may travel back to their hometowns on weekends when the schedule allows.

What Do Billet Families Receive?

Along with the deep satisfaction of helping a young player pursue their dreams, billet families receive a monthly stipend for each player they host. Many families find it easier to host two players at a time, as they can keep each other company and travel together.

Who Can Be a Billet Family?

Billet families come in all shapes and sizes—whether you're a traditional two-parent family, a single-parent household, or even an "empty-nester," your home could be the perfect fit for a player.

What our Families Say

"If I can host a junior player for the first time during a pandemic, I can do anything! It's not nor ever will it be about the money, the experience is priceless."

"These boys come into your home, as strangers. Enjoy them, make lasting memories with them, because when they leave they take a little part of your heart with them."
